I am an artist living in San Jose, California. I've been taking pictures since 1987 when my father passed down his camera to my hands on my 21st birthday. I like taking pictures because it captures so much so quickly.
I grew up in Palo Alto, California. All my life I have made art with whatever materials I was fortunate enough to acquire. I took art classes and created my own assignments to pass the time, drawing, always drawing. And painting, etch-a-sketch, origami and any other art form I could find or make up myself.
Once I learned to develop and print film in a dark room I all but dropped my life of drawing and other pleasurable media. I wish it were not so. I mourn the loss of there not being enough time in a human life to do and make all the things I have in my head. Photography helps me get them out faster and is my most frequent medium.
I like to take pictures of people and scenes, in particular moments when everything falls into place and tells one of the many stories running through my head. It feels magical to find and freeze a moment.
I also quite like to set up scenes to shoot. For this kind of idea there is much to organize and execute and usually takes weeks to pull together a shoot. It makes my brain tingle to invent as I go.
In addition to photography I have been learning to work with bronze, steel, and stone. I'm dreaming of some day finishing a cast glass piece. It sits in wax form threatening me with entropic menace.
Thanks for coming to learn about me. Feel free to send me a note.
